Being a stay-at-home mom is a full time job. It can be challenging, exhausting, and physically and mentally demanding. But, it is also rewarding as you get to spend everyday with your amazing children.
Spending more time with your children gives you the opportunity to watch them grow and flourish. However, you may struggle to get things done. And it can become lonely when children go back to school and you have extra time to fill.
If you are struggling as a stay at home mom, here’s how to become a happier one.
Self-Care
When you are constantly watching and entertaining your children, you may find that you disregard your self-care regime. Take time everyday to shower, do your skincare routine, go for a walk, and put on an outfit that makes you feel confident. Remember, self-care is not selfish, and taking the time to care for yourself can help you become happier.
Develop a Routine/Hobby
Besides school drop-off and pickup, making dinner, and cleaning, try to develop your own routine. Maybe you go to a local art gallery or decide to try a new workout class. Finding new hobbies helps you to develop a routine that you will get to look forward to everyday. It can also help motivate you to get out of the house.
Don’t Feel Guilty For Saying No
Yes, yes, yes! This may be the most common word for stay at home moms. You may find yourself taking on way too much to fill your daily schedule. But, you don’t have to say yes to every bake sale, school event, or children’s birthday party. It is okay to say no to allow yourself to focus on your priorities.
There Is No Such Thing As Perfect
If your child breaks a toy, that’s okay! If you forget to shower for 3 days, that’s okay! If you spend the day watching TV instead of getting stuff done, that’s okay! There is no such thing as perfect when it comes to motherhood. Remind yourself that mistakes are guaranteed and everything will turn out just fine.
